Increase Dynamic Range of Sar Adcs Using Oversampling

چکیده
In some previous articles general overviews of Δ-Σ and SAR (successive approximation register) ADCs, the techniques of oversampling as it relates to signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and effective number of bits (ENOB) have been covered. The oversampling technique is most often used with the Δ-Σ ADC, but it is also useful with the SAR ADC. In this article we will dive in a bit deeper to see how this works. First, a quick overview from a system-level perspective:

A Wideband High Dynamic Range Continuous-Time Sigma-Delta ADC for Wireless Applications
In recent years, the research toward the development of high speed and high resolution analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) has been equally driven by the demand of high-speed wire line and wireless communication services. Delta-Sigma ADCs are widely used in wireless applications due to their oversampling and noise shaping characteristics. This thesis aims to design a continuous-time sigma-delta...
متن کاملMismatch-Immune Successive- Approximation Techniques for Nanometer CMOS ADCs
During the past decade, SAR ADCs have enjoyed increasing prominence due to their inherently scaling-friendly architecture. Several recent SAR ADC innovations focus on decreasing power consumption, mitigating thermal noise, and improving bandwidth, however most of those using non-hybrid architectures are limited to moderate (8-10 bit) resolution. Assuming a nearly rail-to-rail dynamic range, com...
متن کاملA Fast Multiple Sampling Method for Low-Noise CMOS Image Sensors With Column-Parallel 12-bit SAR ADCs
This paper presents a fast multiple sampling method for low-noise CMOS image sensor (CIS) applications with column-parallel successive approximation register analog-to-digital converters (SAR ADCs). The 12-bit SAR ADC using the proposed multiple sampling method decreases the A/D conversion time by repeatedly converting a pixel output to 4-bit after the first 12-bit A/D conversion, reducing nois...
متن کاملA dynamic element matching technique for reduced-distortion multibit quantization in delta-sigma ADCs
A multibit analog-to-digital converter can achieve high resolution with a lower order modulator and lower oversampling ratio than a single-bit design. However, in a multibit modulator, quantization level errors in the internal multibit quantizer can limit the modulator’s signal-to-noise-and-distortion and spurious-free dynamic range. For a CMOS analog-to-digital converter using a flash analog-t...
متن کاملHigh-Speed Multibit Delta-Sigma ADCs with On-Line Digital Error Correction
Multibit delta-sigma modulators are widely used in recent analog-to-digital converter (ADC) implementations [1, Chapter 8]. Due to their improved stability, they can achieve the same high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) with lower order modulator and lower oversampling ratio (OSR), i.e. higher speed, than their singlebit counterparts. Also, the use of a multibit feedback relaxes slew-rate and settl...
